Smart Credit Coaches is a professional credit coaching firm built around two disciplines — traditional disputing and sweep strategies — paired with the kind of one-on-one guidance most consumers never get. We help clients understand their reports, exercise their rights under federal law, and build a smarter long-term plan.
We start by walking you through what's actually on your three-bureau report — what the items mean, where they came from, what's accurate, and what may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable under federal law. Most consumers have never had this conversation. It changes everything that comes after.
No two credit profiles are the same, and no two dispute plans should be either. We build a written strategy for your file specifically — what items to challenge, in what order, through which method, and how the work coordinates with the rest of your financial picture.
Every dispute round is documented. Every bureau response is reviewed with you. You get visibility into what's happening on your file at each stage, and the coaching to understand why a result came back the way it did — including the rounds that don't produce changes.
Most credit firms pick a single approach and force every client into it. We don't. We run traditional disputing and sweep strategies side-by-side because real credit profiles don't fit neatly into one method — and the right method for your file depends on what's actually on it.
The federally-protected process for challenging information on your credit report under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. We draft, document, and manage dispute correspondence to the bureaus and to data furnishers — round by round, with full records of every send and every response.
For clients with the right profile, sweep-style approaches can move multiple challenges through the system on a compressed timeline. The work is more intensive, the documentation is heavier, and the strategy is built to your specific file — not a one-size template.
Tradelines are one of the most misunderstood tools in the credit world. They aren't a fix, they aren't permanent, and they aren't right for every client. But for the right profile at the right moment, an authorized-user tradeline can be a useful component of a broader strategy. Here's the honest version of how they work.
A tradeline is an account that reports to the credit bureaus. When we talk about adding a tradeline, we typically mean an authorized-user tradeline — being added as an authorized user to a seasoned credit card account belonging to a primary cardholder with a long, clean history. The account's age, limit, and payment history then report on your file as well.
Because you're an authorized user — not the primary borrower — you're not legally responsible for the debt. You're borrowing the data, not the obligation.
Different clients have different timelines, different goals, and different profiles. We offer two engagement structures so the work matches the client — not the other way around. Both include the coaching and documentation that define how we operate. They differ in pace, intensity, and the methodology behind them.
Built for clients with a defined timeline — and a profile that's a genuine fit for sweep-style work. Higher intensity, tighter cadence, heavier documentation. This is the engagement we run when a client has a real reason to move quickly.
The traditional, methodical engagement — federally-protected disputing run round by round at a measured pace. Best for clients with longer runways and steady, ongoing improvement goals. Same coaching, same documentation, longer arc.
Smart Credit Coaches was founded on the belief that credit work should be done by operators who actually understand the file — not call-center scripts. The two people leading the firm have spent years inside this industry and bring two complementary perspectives to every client engagement.
Dustin founded Smart Credit Coaches in 2023 to build the kind of credit firm he wished existed when he first entered the industry — one that pairs disciplined, federally-grounded dispute work with real coaching, and treats clients as people with profiles, not files in a queue. He runs the firm day-to-day from Chicago and is involved in the strategy on every engagement the firm takes on.
Before founding Smart Credit Coaches, Dustin spent years operating in financial services — first in direct sales and then in the credit industry — where he developed the operating philosophy now baked into the firm: persistence, repetition, transparent documentation, and a refusal to outsource the hard parts of the job. That philosophy is the firm's competitive edge.
His role today blends executive leadership with hands-on involvement. He sets the firm's standards for how disputes are documented, how clients are coached, and how methods are matched to profiles. The bar he holds the team to is the bar he holds himself to.
Leo is the senior credit coach at Smart Credit Coaches. He has spent more than a decade operating in financial services — credit, sales, and small-business operations — and has worked alongside a large number of clients across that career. His experience runs across the front line of the work and the operator's seat behind it.
Earlier in his career, Leo built and exited a company in this space at a strong multiple — a process that gave him a perspective most coaches in this industry simply don't have. He knows what real operations look like, what scales, and what doesn't. That perspective informs how he coaches clients today: practically, directly, and with the long view in mind.
At Smart Credit Coaches, Leo works directly with clients and is also a close strategic partner to Dustin in shaping how the firm operates. He's part of the reason the coaching side of the firm carries the weight it does — clients aren't getting a script, they're getting a decade of perspective applied to their specific file.
Dustin and his team actually take the time to walk you through what's on your report. I had things on my file for years that I never understood until they sat me down and explained them. The communication has been the best part — I'm never wondering what's happening with my file.
I came in expecting another credit company that just sends letters and disappears. Smart Credit Coaches is the opposite. They explain every step, document everything, and treat you like a person. I've recommended them to family already.
The level of professionalism is what sold me. They were honest with me about what was realistic for my profile and what wasn't — including telling me straight up that one option I asked about wasn't a fit. That kind of honesty is rare in this industry.
Leo coached me through every round and made sure I actually understood what was happening on my report. I learned more about credit in a few weeks with him than I had in years on my own. The education piece is the real value here.
Responsive, organized, and patient with all of my questions. They never made me feel like a number. The portal and the documentation gave me visibility into the whole process I'd never had before. Worth every minute.
Smart Credit Coaches set realistic expectations from the first call and stuck to them. There were no big promises — just steady, honest work and clear communication. That's exactly what I wanted.
